The Briggs & Stratton Etek is a 21 pound DC motor rated 8 HP continuous, 15 HP peak at 48 volts. It is typically used as a weapon motor in middleweight and heavier robots, but has been used as a propulsion motor.
The Etek should always be used with a shock-compliant drivetrain to avoid transmitting high shock-load to the shaft that could damage the armature.
Briggs & Stratton have introduced a direct bolt-in replacement for the now-discontinued Etek -- the Etec-R. Performance figures are the same, but the new motor weighs 28 pounds; a considerable weight gain!
